Engines without turbocharging
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. For better access, separate the air cleaner inlet pipe from the intake manifold or remove the air cleaner assembly, depending on the engine type.
3. Apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and place it on supports.
4. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold and remove the gasket.
5. On engines with an exhaust gas recirculation system, disconnect the EGR system connection hose in the throttle body and remove the metal gasket. Remove the bolts securing the support bracket to the exhaust manifold and throttle body and remove the bracket (see Figure 19.5).

6. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head and separate the manifold from the engine (see Figure 19.6).

7. It is necessary to thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head before starting reinstallation.
Installation
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Apply a suitable heat-resistant lubricant to the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head, and tighten the retaining bolts to the specified torque.
Turbocharged engines
9. On turbocharged engines, the exhaust manifold is removed along with the turbocharger as described in section 21.
