Turbocharging — inspection and repair (Transit 2)

1. After removing the turbocharger, inspect the housing for cracks or other visible damage.

2. By quickly rotating the compressor or turbine wheel, make sure that the shaft is not damaged and that you do not feel excessive resistance or jolts. Some resistance is normal as the shaft "floats" on an oil film. Check that the wheel blades are not damaged.

3. If the exhaust or induction passages are contaminated with oil, the turbo shaft oil seals are likely damaged.

4. It is not possible to repair the turbocharger on your own. In case of breakdown, a new unit must be installed or the current one must be properly repaired.
