Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. For better access, unscrew the two bolts and remove the fuel pump shield (see Figure 17.2).

3. Disconnect the fuel supply hoses from the pump; note their location for reinstallation. Where quick release couplings are used on the fuel supply hoses, disengage the protruding tabs on each coupling by squeezing them together and carefully remove them. Use a rag to soak up any spilled fuel. If the connections are color-coded, the tubes cannot be mixed up. Otherwise, make your marks by marking both ends to be connected with the same color for proper reinstallation. Cap the hoses to prevent dirt from getting in and fuel from spilling.
4. Unscrew and remove the lock nuts, remove the fuel pump.
5. Remove the sealing ring; keep in mind that you will need a new seal when reinstalling.
6. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces on the pump and motor.
Installation
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Make sure to use a new O-ring and tighten the retaining bolts and nuts securely. Make sure the hoses are connected correctly and securely. Insert the quick-release couplings into their slots until they snap into place.
8. When finished, fill the fuel system as described in section 2, start the engine and check for leaks.
