Removal
Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the front wheels.
Clamp the brake hose (see Fig. 9.12).
Bendix brake
Unscrew the brake hose from the caliper (see Fig. 9.13).
Remove the R-shaped mounting bracket from the guide pin and remove it.
Remove the plug and unscrew the caliper mounting bolt.
Remove the caliper from the brake pad holder.
Remove the brake pads.
Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts and remove the shoe holder from the steering knuckle (see Fig. 9.14).
Teves brakes
Loosen (but do not completely remove) the brake hose connections to the caliper (see Fig. 9.15).
Remove the front brake pads.
Rotate the caliper and unscrew it from the brake hose. Close the brake hose with a plug. If necessary, unscrew the bolt and remove the pad holder from the steering knuckle.
Repair. Bendix and Teves calipers
Clean the calipers from dust and dirt. Remove the piston from the caliper, for which you can use low-pressure air supplied to the brake cylinder through the hole for connecting the brake hose. Remove the dust cover from the groove in the piston and the sealing ring from the groove in the caliper hole.
Wash all parts in methylated spirits or clean brake fluid and wipe them dry.
When assembling the caliper, use a new piston sealing ring and dust boot. Lubricate the piston bore in the caliper and the sealing ring with clean brake fluid. Install the sealing ring in the caliper bore. Install the dust boot on the piston so that the inner diameter of the boot fits into the groove in the piston. Insert the piston into the caliper and at the same time insert the outer edge of the dust boot into the caliper until it locks into place (see Fig. 9.17).
Installation. Bendix brake
If the brake shoe holder has been removed, reinstall it and secure it with bolts.
Install the brake pads into the holder.
Install the caliper on the bracket and insert the suspension pivot bolt. Install the guide pin and secure it with the R-clamp. Tighten the suspension bolt to the specified torque. Connect the flexible brake hose to the caliper. Bleed the brake system. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle.
Installation. Teves brake
If the pad holder was removed, install it on the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Screw the caliper onto the brake hose.
Install the brake pads. Install the caliper onto the pad holder.
Remove air from the brake system. Install the wheel and lower the car.
