Withdrawal

Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the relevant rear wheel and release the handbrake.

On all models except Van, unscrew the 4 bolts securing the drum/hub to the rear axle flange, then remove the drum/hub from the axle. If the brake drum is held by the brake shoes, remove the rubber plug from the inside of the brake shield and release the automatic brake adjuster by lowering the adjuster latch through the brake shield (see fig. 9.20, 9.21).

On Van models, additionally remove the retainer of one of the wheel bolts.

Examination

Clean the inner surfaces of the brake drum, check the condition of its inner surface for wear and damage. If the condition of the inner surface of the drum is poor, then it must be replaced

Installation

Being careful, install the drum / hub assembly on the shoes and screw it to the rear axle flange to the required torque. On Van models, secure the drum with a retainer. Install the wheel. Depress the brake pedal several times to automatically adjust the brake pads.
