Removing the clutch

            0

Withdrawal

Remove the gearbox. Check the presence of marks that determine the position of the leading part of the clutch in relation to the flywheel. If there are no marks, apply them yourself. Unscrew alternately crosswise 6 bolts securing the leading part of the clutch to the flywheel blocking the flywheel ring gear with a screwdriver. Remove the clutch drive from the guide pins (see fig. 6.9).

Examination

Check the condition of the clutch disc. The traces of wear at the ends of the pressure spring should be no more than 0.3 mm. Check the tightness of the spring connection between the driving disc and the cover. Scratches and missing or damaged rivets are not allowed. Check the drive disc for cracks, burn marks and surface wear. Measure the thickness of the clutch disc linings. If their thickness is less than acceptable, replace them or the clutch disc.

Installation

Before installing a new clutch drive plate, completely remove the protective grease. Thoroughly clean the spline of the gearbox input shaft and the internal splines of the driven disc, as well as the release bearing guide sleeve. Install the drive and driven discs on the flywheel and center with a mandrel.

Attention. The flat side of the driven disc with the inscription "flywheel side" should point towards the flywheel.

Tighten the bolts of the leading part of the clutch so that the clutch disc is pressed, but at the same time can still move to the sides.

Using a drift or an old transmission input shaft, center the clutch disc on the flywheel (see fig. 6.11).

After centering the clutch disc, gradually and in a diagonal sequence, tighten the bolts securing the leading part of the clutch to the required torque.

Check that the transmission input shaft splines, clutch disc splines and bearing guide are clean. Lubricate the spline of the transmission input shaft and the release bearing guide bushing with a thin coat of FORD special grease #5021439.

Attention. The lubricant layer must be thin and uniform, as otherwise, during clutch operation, excess lubricant will be thrown onto the working surfaces of the clutch, which may interfere with its operation.

Install the gearbox.
