Withdrawal
Remove the negative terminal from the battery. Unscrew the lock nut and remove the speedometer drive cable from the drive gear or vehicle speed sensor. If a vehicle speed sensor is installed, use 2 wrenches to unscrew. Hold the sensor with one, and unscrew the speedometer cable nut with the other.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor. Unscrew the sensor from the top of the gear. Using pliers, remove the speedometer drive gear roll pin. Remove the speedometer drive gear from the gearbox housing.
Using a small screwdriver, remove the O-ring from the groove in the bearing.
Thoroughly clean the speedometer drive gear and bearing, as well as the gear housing in the gearbox
Installation
Installation is done in sequence. reverse withdrawal. Lubricate the O-ring with a thin layer of oil before installation. Block the gear with a cylindrical pin, which must be inserted as far as it will go. The roll pin should protrude from the gearbox housing by approximately 5 mm.
