Accelerator cable — removal and installation

Connecting the accelerator cable to the control lever on the high pressure fuel pump.





Withdrawal



1. Remove ground wire from battery.

2. Remove trim under dashboard.



3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the pedal, for which, while holding the end of the cable, pull the accelerator pedal off the floor of the body.

4. Press the accelerator cable guide bushing out of the bulkhead into the passenger compartment.

5. Pull the accelerator cable into the engine compartment.

6. Disconnect the second end of the accelerator cable from the spherical head on the lever that controls the fuel supply of the fuel pump. To do this, use a narrow screwdriver to lift the locking bracket on the spherical head and remove the head upwards. On later models, the cable end has a plastic lug that lifts up from the high pressure fuel pump fuel control lever.


7. Remove the adjusting clip from the accelerator cable holder by successively drowning 4 fixing levers with a screwdriver. Simultaneously press the clip against the holder and then pull it out through the hole in the holder.

Installation



Attention! The accelerator cable does not allow even slight bending. A cable that has been kinked must not be installed on a vehicle.


1. Pass the cable through the baffle and insert the guide sleeve.

2. Connect the end of the cable to the accelerator pedal and push the cable sheath into the guide sleeve.

3. Guide the cable into the holder on the high pressure fuel pump until the retaining tabs of the adjusting clip engage. Screw in the adjusting screw completely.

4. Connect the accelerator cable to the lever on the high pressure fuel pump and adjust the accelerator cable.

Cable adjustment



1. Press the accelerator pedal to the stop and lock it in this position.

2. Unscrew the adjusting screw so that the fuel feed lever on the fuel pump is in the maximum fuel delivery position.

3. Release the accelerator pedal, depress again and check the maximum fuel setting. Re-adjust if necessary.

4. Install trim under dashboard.

5. Connect ground wire to battery.
