Engine starting

            0

Starting information applies to all models equipped with injection or carburetor.

Attention! The engine must be started with the hand brake applied. The gearshift lever must be set to neutral, and in an automatic transmission - to position "P".

Vehicles with automatic transmission

Start the engine with the lever in position "P".

High idle speeds on a cold engine are not allowed.

Be sure to apply the hand brake or depress the foot brake pedal.

Vehicles with 1.4 dm CVH engine3

When starting these engines, a valve knock is heard, which disappears after the engine warms up, since they have hydraulic valve clearance compensators.

Vehicles with CVH engine with displacement 1.4 dm3 and central injection

The switch is indicated by an arrow.

These vehicles are equipped with an additional safety switch. It serves to turn off the electric fuel pump in the event of an accident. To turn it on again, press the button. The switch is located in the spare wheel well. To bring the fuel system into working condition, it is necessary to press the button and turn the key in the ignition switch to position II for a few seconds, and then return it to its original position.

Starting a cold gasoline engine

An engine with a temperature below 0°C is considered cold.

When starting the engine, be sure to depress the clutch to disengage the gearbox with thickened oil. The clutch can be released after the engine starts to run steadily.

Starting a cold gasoline engine with manual choke control

1. Pull the carburetor choke control knob towards you as far as it will go. Press the accelerator pedal twice.

2. Turn on the starter by turning the ignition key to position III. Turn on the starter for no more than 10 seconds. If the engine does not start on the first try, restart the engine no earlier than 30 seconds later. Do not press the accelerator pedal when starting the engine. If the engine does not start after two attempts, the engine may have been overfueled, in which case the instructions below should be followed.

3. After starting and gradually warming up the engine, gradually move the carburetor choke control in, while maintaining a steady engine speed.

4. When the engine reaches operating temperature, push the carburetor choke control knob all the way down. You can start moving.
