Oil pump — disassembly, inspection and assembly (Transit 2)

            0

Note: Oil pump parts are not supplied separately. If subsequent inspection reveals that the pump is worn, an oil pump kit must be purchased.

Disassembly

1. Remove the oil pump (see section 13).

2. To inspect the oil pump parts for excessive wear, loosen the locking screw and remove the rear cover from the pump housing (see figure 14.2,a,b).

3. Wipe the outside of the pump housing clean.

Inspection

4. Inspect the rotors and the inside of the pump housing for deep scratches, nicks and noticeable wear.

5. Using a feeler gauge, check the clearances between the pump body and the outer rotor, the clearance between the inner and outer rotor, and the axial play of the rotor (see figure 14.5, a, b, c).

6. If the measured clearances exceed the specified maximum, the pump must be replaced with a new one.

Assembly

7. After thoroughly lubricating the pump with clean machine oil, install the rear casing sheet onto the pump body. Center the holes for the locking screw and install the screw. Make sure the screw goes through the hole in the mounting plate (see Figure 14.8)
