Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the wiper arms as described in previous Section.
3. Unscrew the plastic nut from the windshield wiper arm pivot shaft housing located in the center of the hood (see Figure 19.3).

4. Remove the windshield grille panel according to Chapter 11.
5. Unscrew the steel nuts on the axles of both wiper arms and remove them together with the gaskets.
6. Squeeze the locking tab and separate the multi-pin connector from the wiper motor (see Figure 19.6.).

7. Remove the two bolts securing the wiper motor bracket to the engine compartment bulkhead and remove the motor and drive mechanism from the vehicle.
8. To remove the drive mechanism, disengage the ball joints of the brush arm axle and the drive arm by prying the ball joint bearings with a fork wrench and removing them from the ball joints. Remove the felt washers, marking their installation location (see figure 19.8, a, b).

9. After marking the relative positions of the drive lever and the wiper motor shaft, unscrew the locking nut and remove the lever. After unscrewing three bolts, remove the bracket wiper motor.
Installation
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Please note the following points:
- a) Make sure that the wiper drive arm is correctly installed on the drive shaft;
- 6) There are two types of windshield wipers installed on a Ford Transit: SWF or Deico. The Deico cover is plastic, while the SWF cover is steel. It is very important that the pivot nuts are installed correctly (depending on the type used) installed and tightened to the tightening torque specified in the specification. It is important that on both types, the steel nuts that secure the steering axle housings to the hood are installed first. Plastic nut (looks like steel in appearance), the windshield grille mounting panel is installed last. The steel nut on the Deico axle must be tightened to a torque not exceeding 12 Nm;
- c) After installation, check the operation of the windshield wipers.
