Note: The following information only applies to radios and stereos that were originally fitted to your Ford Transit by the manufacturer. Before starting work, please refer to the section "Radio blocking system in case of theft" at the beginning of this guide.
Removal
Standard radio receiver
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the radio control buttons, plastic tone control lever and tuning knob gasket.
3. Unscrew the two mounting nuts and remove the front panel.
4. Using a piece of welding rod with a rounded end or something similar, pull the radio out by pulling the locking tabs inward (see Figure 23.4). Disconnect the wiring and antenna from the back of the unit, then remove the receiver.

Digital radio
5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
6. To loosen the clamps that secure the radio, insert two U-shaped rods into the special holes on each side. For this purpose, it is preferable to obtain from a specialist specially made rods with fuses that snap tightly into the clamps so that the radio can be removed. Pull the radio straight out of the hole, otherwise it may jam (see figure 23.6, a-c).

7. After removing the radio, disconnect the antenna and wiring connectors from its rear part (see Figure 23.7).

8. Unscrew the retaining nut and remove the support bracket from the back of the radio.
Installation
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Please note the following points:
- a) For a standard radio, after complete installation, tune it for best reception in an interference-free area. Insert a small electric screwdriver into the adjustment screw on the front of the unit and gradually turn it until you get the best possible reception;
- b) For a digital radio, after connecting the wires to the back of the unit, press the radio into place until the retaining clips engage;
- c) On all types of radios and tape recorders that have a security code, re-enable the unit in accordance with the code and instructions given in "Ford Audio Operating Manual", supplied with the vehicle.
