This chapter is intended to ensure that the vehicle is properly serviced, to help maintain the vehicle in good condition and to extend its service life. If the vehicle is not serviced regularly, poor engine performance (poor power output, strange engine behavior, etc.) may result. In this case, the following steps should be taken.

Primary actions:
  • check all engine related fluids;
  • clean, inspect and check the battery condition;
  • check the cooling system;
  • check the condition and tension of the auxiliary drive belts;
  • check the condition of high-voltage wires;
  • replace spark plugs;
  • check and, if necessary, adjust idle speed;
  • check the condition of the air filter and crankcase ventilation filter;
  • check the condition of the crankcase ventilation valve.

If these steps are not effective, then the following steps must be taken.

Secondary actions:
  • check the fuel system;
  • replace fuel filter;
  • check and, if necessary, adjust valve clearances;
  • check the exhaust gas re-burning system;
  • replace high voltage wires;
  • replace air filter and crankcase ventilation filter;
  • check the ignition timing setting;
  • check the charging system.
