Timing Belt Cover — removal and installation (Transit 2)

Removal



1. Remove the radiator as described in Chapter 3, Section 4.

2. Remove the fan clutch as described in Chapter 3, Section 5.

3. Remove the alternator and water pump drive belt as described in Chapter 1, Section 9.

4. Unscrew four bolts on each and remove the water pump and fan pulleys (see figure 6.4, a, b).

5. Remove the seven bolts securing the timing belt cover to the engine (see Figure 6.5a). To make it easier to remove the cover through the crankshaft pulley groove, loosen the two small bolts just above this pulley and pull the mudguard up through the extended grooves of the bolts (see figure 6.5b).

6. Pivot the bottom of the camshaft timing belt cover downwards, then manipulate the cover around the crankshaft groove pulley to remove it from the engine (see figure 6.6, a, b).

Installation



7. Replace the cover and tighten the seven retaining bolts to specification.

8. Put on the mudguard, lower it to its original position and tighten the two bolts.

9. Install the water pump and fan pulleys and tighten the bolts to specification.

10. Install the water pump and fan drive belt as described in Chapter 1, the fan clutch and radiator as described in Chapter 3.
