Cooling system (Transit 2)

Overheat

• Lack of coolant in the system (Chapter 1).
• Thermostat malfunction (Chapter 3).
• The radiator core is clogged or the gaps in the front grille are too narrow (Chapter 3).
• The cooling fan clutch is faulty (Chapter 3).
• The expansion tank cap is not sealed (Chapter 3).
• The timing belt is worn or incorrectly adjusted (Chapter 2A).
• The temperature gauge sensor is damaged (Chapter 3).
• Air has entered the cooling system (Chapter 1).

Hypothermia

• Thermostat is faulty (Chapter 3).
• The temperature gauge sensor is damaged (Chapter 3).

External coolant leaks

• Deterioration or damage to hoses or their clamps (Chapter 1).
• Leaks through the radiator or heater core (Chapter 3).
• The expansion tank cap is not sealed (Chapter 3).
• Leaking water pump seals (Chapter 3).
• Coolant boiling due to overheating (Chapter 3).
• Leaks through plugs (Chapter 2B).

Internal coolant leaks

• Cylinder head gasket leaks (Chapter 2A).
• Cracks in the cylinder head or cylinder liners (Chapter 2A or 2B).

Corrosion

• Neglect of the cooling system flushing procedure.
• The antifreeze was mixed incorrectly or the wrong type of antifreeze was used (Chapter 1).
