The engine called "Valencia" (Fig. 2.1) is an overhead valve engine with a camshaft placed in the housing and acting on the valves through pushers and valve levers. The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft by means of a chain.

The oil pump is located on the side of the engine housing, in the side casing of which there is a flange for mounting the oil filter. The pump is driven from the crankshaft using a helical gear transmission.
The engine is equipped with an electronic ignition system without a distributor.
Engine 1.4i
The engine is located in the front part of the vehicle transversely to the direction of travel. It has the factory designation CVH/1-4 (Fig. 2.2)

The versions of this engine intended for export to various countries are additionally designated by the symbol F 6 E. The camshaft is driven from the crankshaft by means of a toothed belt. The belt transmission of this drive is located at the front of the engine. The ignition distributor is driven directly by the camshaft, which is located in the cylinder head. The oil pump is located in the front cover of the engine housing and is driven directly by the crankshaft. The water pump is driven from the camshaft by means of a belt transmission. The valves are actuated by hydraulic tappets. Due to this, there is no need to adjust the valve clearances.
Fuel injection is single-point, electronically controlled. The engine is equipped with a catalytic exhaust system with a lambda probe.
Engine 1.6i
The engine has the same design as the 1.4i engine and has the factory designation LJD/LJC.
Diesel engine 1.8
The crankshaft rests on five bearings and, using a toothed belt, drives the camshaft located in the head. The valves are actuated directly by the camshaft (Fig. 2.3).

The injection pump is driven from the crankshaft by a gear transmission. The generator and water pump are driven by a V-belt from the crankshaft.
The oil pump is located in the front cover that covers the valve timing drive and is driven directly by the crankshaft.
