Secure the engine to the mounting stand
Remove the generator with its casing and belt pulley.
Unscrew the oil filter and drain the oil from the engine.
Remove the pulley from the shaft.
Remove the two-piece timing belt cover.
Loosen the tensioner and remove the toothed belt (Fig. 2.21).

Loosen the distributor cap with high-tension wires. Unscrew the spark plugs.
Remove the cylinder head cover with ventilation ducts.
Remove the cylinder head. Unscrew the bolts as shown in Fig. 2.22.

Remove the oil pan.
Unscrew the bolts securing the clutch housing to the flywheel in several stages.
Unscrew the bolts securing the rear crankshaft bearing cover (Fig. 2.23).

Remove the water pump.
Remove the toothed wheel (Fig. 2.24) of the belt drive from the crankshaft using puller 21-098.

Remove the oil pump with the feed (suction) tube (Fig. 2.25).

If necessary, remove any carbon deposits that have accumulated on the cylinder edges. Use a blunt instrument to do this so as not to damage the cylinder surfaces.
Remove the lower connecting rod head caps and disassemble them. Do not mix up the parts!
Remove the pistons with connecting rods upwards.
Assemble the caps with the corresponding connecting rods and connect them loosely with the connecting rod bolts.
Unscrew the bolts securing the crankshaft main bearing caps.
Remove the crankshaft from the engine housing.
Remove the liners and place them in the appropriate bearings. Place the bearing caps and bolt them together loosely. Do not mix up the liners and bearing caps.
Remove the oil pressure sensor.
Degrease all parts except the liners.
