Ford Escort has an original body shape and is quite distinct from similar cars. The body is two-volume, like a "hatchback" or three-volume like a "sedan". It is easily transformed into a cargo-passenger by folding forward the cushion and back of the rear seat. The car enjoyed great success until it was discontinued in 1990. The trunk of the car is considered the largest in the class of compact cars, and it can be significantly increased by folding back the asymmetrically folding back of the rear seat, and for ease of loading, the upper edge of the side is located at the level of the bumper. The driver's seat allows even a driver up to 195 cm tall to sit in a comfortable position. The driver's seat amazes with its functionality. The car has an excellent overview, convenient rear-view mirrors with adjustment, illuminated switches, a body fully visible in the mirrors and a wide field of view.
Dynamic characteristics are quite favorable. Front drive wheels create high stability of the car against lateral skidding. The coincidence of the direction of action of the traction force on the front drive wheels with the direction of movement of the wheels provides the car with good controllability, maneuverability and cross-country ability, especially on slippery and icy roads. Ride comfort is ensured by a relatively long suspension travel and good shock absorbers. The car is easy to control, has high dynamic and speed qualities. But in the technique of controlling a front-wheel drive car in unfavorable conditions there are some peculiarities compared to a rear-wheel drive car.
High performance of the car, its reliability and minimal labor intensity of maintenance largely depend on compliance with the rules of operation and maintenance.
