The body is load-bearing, stamped from steel sheets welded by electric contact welding. Only the hood, doors, radiator grille and decorative trim parts are removable.
The L, LG and Ghia modifications indicate differences in body trim and equipment configuration.
The Ford Escort car body is three-volume with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.37.
