Steering column (Escort 5)

Removal

Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

Remove the steering wheel.

Unscrew the screws and remove the upper and lower steering column covers (see Fig. 10.46, 10.47).





Remove the multifunction switch from the steering column. Remove the electrical connector from the ignition switch. Disconnect the hood release cable. Remove the hood release lever from the column (see Fig. 10.48).



Unscrew the clamp bolt securing the steering column to the steering gear pinion shaft. Unscrew the lower and upper steering column mounting nuts and remove the steering column from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
