Pic. 10.2. Removing the fuel pump from the fuel tank on vehicles with Zetec-SE and Endura-E engines

Fuel pump - in a Ford Fiesta, it is elastically attached directly to the fuel tank (pic. 10.2). The pump has an electric drive and together with the fuel level sensor makes up a single assembly block. A relief valve in the pump housing diverts excess fuel and fuel vapor back to the fuel tank. At the same time, the valve maintains pressure in the power system when the ignition is off.

Fuel filter - filters liquid and solid non-combustible fuel ingredients; installed in front of the fuel distribution pipeline.

Pic. 10.3. Elements of the fuel vapor recovery system: 1 - outlet ventilation hose from the fuel tank; 2 - tank with activated carbon (absorber); 3 – a head of the block of cylinders; 4 - suction pipe; 5 - solenoid valve for controlling the fuel vapor recovery system

Activated carbon tank (absorber) - traps fuel vapors in the ventilation hose. Depending on the engine load, the control unit opens the vacuum hose to the intake pipe through the solenoid valve, fuel vapors are forcibly sucked out of the absorber and, mixed with a fresh air-fuel mixture, are burned in the combustion chambers (pic. 10.3). The absorber is installed in the engine compartment.
