Draining fuel from the tank without a hand pump (Fiesta 4)

If you need to drain the fuel to work on the fuel system, you should first drain the tank as much as possible. The Fiesta fuel tank does not have a drain hole. Since the fuel supply and return lines are located on top of the fuel tank, it is not possible to simply drain the fuel. If you do not have a hand diaphragm pump, drain the fuel as follows.



SEQUENCE OF WORKS

1. Raise your Fiesta as high as possible.

2. Insert a hose (a piece of garden hose will do) into the filler neck so that it reaches the bottom of the fuel tank.

3. Lift the upper end of the hose up and clamp it tightly with your finger. The fuel collection container should be as low as possible below the bottom of the fuel tank. Pull the clamped end of the hose out of the fuel tank and lower it into the container. Quickly remove your finger - fuel will flow out of the tank. If fuel does not flow out, repeat the operation.

4. If the fuel tank is not completely full, it is impossible to pump out the fuel in this way; you must use a hand pump.
