Removing the window lift handle

1. On Ghia models, release the retaining clips and remove the panel trim.
2. Remove the window lift handle (see Fig. Removing the window lift handle), for which remove the decorative plastic plug on the handle's rotation axis and unscrew the screws that are exposed (indicated by arrows).
3. To remove the front door trim on an Escort from 1986 onwards, unscrew the screws indicated by the arrows.
4. On vehicles with electric windows, use a screwdriver to remove the switches and disconnect the connector.
5. Unscrew the two screws and remove the armrest. The screws may be covered with plastic plugs.
6. Pull the inner door lock handle frame back to remove it from the latch tabs.
7. Remove the door trim by holding the door and pulling the trim towards you and pulling it out of the clips (model before December 1985).
8. Unscrew two screws on each side of the door and, releasing the door from the clamps, remove it upwards (models from 1986).
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
10. If necessary, replace damaged clamps (arrows indicate the locations of the door trim fastening clamps).
