Removing the shock absorber

Remove the steering knuckle before removing the shock absorber.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Raise the car in a horizontal position and secure it on supports. Remove the front wheel.

2. Remove the brake hose from the shock absorber bracket.

3. Using a spanner SW 19, unscrew the nut of the upper mounting of the shock absorber strut (pic. 13.10). When loosening the nut with an Allen key SW 6, keep the piston rod from turning. Loosen the shock strut-to-dome bolts while supporting the shock strut from below.

4. Remove the ball joint of the anti-roll bar connecting rod from the shock absorber (if it is installed).

5. Remove the bolts, remove the caliper and fix it in the wheel arch with soft wire so that the brake hose does not stretch or twist.

6. Turn away bolts of fastening of the lower part of a shock-absorber rack to a rotary fist. If no special tool is available, insert a suitable bent screwdriver into the groove of the steering knuckle and turn it down 90°. Detach the shock absorber from the swivel bearing, being careful not to damage the steering gear boot.

7. Secure the steering knuckle and wheel drive shaft with soft wire.

8. Unscrew the top nut and, together with the bottom disc mount, remove the shock absorber strut from the wheel arch (pic. 13.11).

9. When installing, the shock strut must be in the center of the top strut mount dome.

10. Tighten the upper mounting nut only when the steering knuckle with shock absorber strut is locked in place.
