Wheel bearing replacement

The ball bearings in the front wheel hubs of the Fiesta are initially set to a very close tolerance. Subsequent correction of the bearing clearance is not required. Due to the high precision of manufacturing and fitting of mating parts, it is very important to use special tools in this case. Therefore, it is better to entrust the replacement of the front wheel hub bearing to a car repair shop.



SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Remove a rotary fist as it is described above.

2. Secure the wheel hub in a vise whose jaws are protected by soft sheet metal.

3. Using a special puller, remove the bearing 1 (pic. 13.19) hubs from the steering knuckle.

4. Thoroughly wash the steering knuckle in gasoline and dry it with compressed air.

5. Place the steering knuckle on a suitable piece of wood to install the bearing. Spray the new bearing with an aerosol de-icer (cold will shrink the bearing), install it in the steering knuckle and «mint» a few gentle hammer blows. Using a suitable pressing tool, press the bearing in until it stops (the pressing tool must pass between the vise jaws). Work must be done smoothly and quickly, as «compressive» the action of the aerosol passes quickly and the bearing can warp in the steering knuckle. When pressing in, do not damage the inner ring of the bearing.

6. As described above, install the steering knuckle.

7. Lower the car on wheels and tighten a nut of fastening of a nave of a wheel the moment of 250 Нм.

When carrying out all work, be sure not to damage the ABS sensor rotor, otherwise malfunctions will occur in the ABS system.
