Removal and installation of heads of blocks of engines 1.4i/1.6i

The block head is removed in the following order:

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

In the 1.4i engine, remove the air filter.

In the 1.6i engine, disconnect the suction line from the head cover.

Drain the coolant into a prepared container. If the coolant has been in operation for less than two years and is free from contamination, it can be used in the future. In order to drain the coolant, it is necessary to disconnect the lower hose from the radiator.

Disconnect all elastic hoses of the cooling system connected to the block head.

Disconnect all electrical wires from the block head.

Disconnect the gas pedal linkage.

Remove the bolts securing the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.

Hang the exhaust pipe on a wire.

Remove the top cover of the toothed belt leading the camshaft.

Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.

Loosen the camshaft timing belt tensioner and remove the belt from the timing belt pulley mounted on the camshaft.

Remove the spark plug caps and unscrew the spark plugs.

Loosen the bolts holding the head of the block, starting from the bolts located at the edges and ending with the bolts located in the middle.

If the block head does not separate, it can be lightly tapped with light blows from a plastic hammer. It is unacceptable to insert any tools between the block head and the engine housing.

If there is water and oil in the cylinders, remove them.

The block head is installed in the reverse order. When installing the head of the block, the subsection on assembling 1.4i / 1.6i engines may be useful. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system as directed in section 2.8 "Cooling system". Check thermostat operation.
