General information
The air conditioning system consists of a condenser, evaporator, compressor, water separator, auxiliary electric cooling fans, and pipes connecting all of the above components.
The supercharger forces warmer air into the car's interior through the evaporator, which works like a reverse radiator, transferring the high air temperature to the refrigerant. The liquid refrigerant boils because it is under low pressure, consuming heat in the process.
Precautionary measures
Warning: The air conditioning system is under high pressure. Do not disconnect any system connections or remove any system components until the system has been discharged by a qualified technician. The air conditioner refrigerant must be properly drained by the dealer's service department or an air conditioner repair shop equipped with the necessary equipment. In any case, wear protective glasses or a face mask when disconnecting system joints.
When repairing a vehicle equipped with air conditioning, the following special precautions must be observed when dealing with any of the system components and adjacent components whose repair requires disconnecting the air conditioning system:
a) the refrigerant used is a very dangerous substance. Do not allow it to come into contact with skin or eyes, as there is a risk of frostbite. Draining the system in a confined space is also dangerous due to the risk of suffocation. The coolant is heavier than air and should never be discharged in a pit;
6) The refrigerant must not come into contact with an open flame, otherwise a toxic gas will be formed, which, under certain circumstances, may form an explosive mixture. Therefore, smoking while draining the refrigerant is life-threatening, especially if the vapor is inhaled through a lit cigarette;
c) Do not vent the system into the atmosphere - although R134a refrigerant does not contain chlorofluorocarbide (CPC), which destroys the ozone layer, the components included in its composition contribute to the "greenhouse effect";
d) If for any reason the system has been disconnected, consult your Ford dealer or a cooling systems engineer for advice;
d) It is essential that the system be drained by a specialist before using any form of high temperature - welding, soldering, etc. - near the system, and before disconnecting any part of it.
