A rattling noise from the rear of the car (which may become smaller when the parking brake is lightly applied)



Noise (high howl), increasing with increasing speed



Noise (tapping or clicking) when accelerating or decelerating


  • The axle shaft splines are worn out (Chapter 8).
  • The differential satellite flange bolts are missing (Chapter 8).
  • Incorrect engagement of gears (Chapter 8).
  • The rear spring U-bolt fastenings have become loose (Chapter 8).
  • Wheel nuts have become loose (Chapters 1 and 10).

Lubricant leaks


  • Leak in oil seal (Chapter 8).
  • Leak at the connection points of the differential housing or its cover (Chapter 8).
