Models from 1996 are equipped with special front seats for the driver and passenger. The seats are an integral part of the Ford safety system (SRS): their consoles are equipped with pyrotechnic devices for pre-tensioning the seat belts, which in the event of an accident instantly tighten the belts and thereby reduce their sagging (Fig. 16.20). If the seats are removed unprofessionally, the pre-tensioning device may be activated and fail. If you decide to remove the seats yourself, first consult with the service center technicians about safety measures.
