Note: New driveshaft coupling flange bolts will be required during installation.
Removal
1. Block both front wheels, jack up the rear of the car and place it on supports.
2. Mark the location of the rear universal joint flanges and the final drive connecting flanges relative to each other.
3. Unscrew the bolts securing the propeller shaft to the final drive coupling flange. Hold the shaft still with a long screwdriver inserted into the crosspiece of the joint. Support the shaft on supports after separating the flanges.
4. As before, mark the position of the universal joint and gearbox connecting flanges relative to each other, then unscrew the retaining bolts, holding the propeller shaft stationary as before.
5. While supporting the front, center, and rear sections of the driveshaft, remove the bolts securing the two middle supports to the underbody of the vehicle. Do not apply any excessive force to the universal joints or allow them to flex excessively, otherwise damage may occur.
6. Release the driveshaft and remove it from under the vehicle.
Installation
7. Align the marks made on the front section flange and the transmission connecting flange during removal, then secure the connecting flanges using new bolts to the specified tightening torque.
8. Raise the center section of the driveshaft and loosely install the retaining bolts of both center supports. Do not tighten the bolts yet.
9. Raise the rear section of the propeller shaft, align the coupling flange marks made during removal and secure the flanges using new bolts to the specified torque.
10. Tighten the retaining bolts securing the two center supports to the specified torque, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
