Water pump — removal and installation

Four cylinder engine

Withdrawal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the coolant (see chapter 1).

3. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the inlet tube from the water pump.

4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

Note: Before loosening and removing the drive belt, make sure the water pump pulley bolts are loose.

5. Loosen the belt tensioner and remove the drive belt from the pump pulley (see chapter 1).

6. Remove the pump pulley.

7. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the pump.

8. Turn off three bolts of fastening of the pump and remove it.

Installation

9. Make sure the mating surfaces of the block and pump are free of gasket material.

10. Apply sealant (PSSC) type B5A - 19554 - A or equivalent on the pump gasket, then place the unit and gasket on the block.

11. Tighten the three mounting bolts, tighten them to the required torque value.

12. Subsequent installation is the reverse of disassembly.

V6 engines

Disassembly

13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

14. Drain the coolant (see chapter 1).

15. Loosen the four bolts of the pump pulley (see picture).

Note: before removing the drive belt, make sure that the pump pulley bolts are unscrewed, but do not try to remove the pulley immediately - the gap between the pump shaft lug and the wheel housing is insufficient. The pulley cannot be removed until the pump is disconnected.

16. Remove the drive belt (belts) (see chapter 1).

17. Remove the generator (see chapter 5).

18. Remove the auxiliary bolts securing the drive belt tensioner assembly (see picture).



19. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the water pump.

20. Loosen the water pump bolts (see picture).





21. Disconnect the water pump from the camshaft drive chain cover.

Installation

22. Clean mating surfaces of water pump and camshaft drive chain cover.

23. Coating the gasket surface with contact adhesion (D7AZ 19B508 - A or similar), place a new gasket on the surface of the pump.

24. Having installed the pulley on the mounting studs of the water pump hub, place the pump on the camshaft drive chain cover.

25. Coat pump bolt threads with pipe sealant (D8AZ - 19558 - A or similar), install the bolts and tighten them to the required torque.

26. Install pump pulley bolts and hand tighten.

27. Subsequent assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.

28. Immediately after installing the drive belt, tighten the bolts securing the pulley to the hub.
