Four-cylinder engine
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant (see chapter 1).
3. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the inlet pipe from the water pump.
4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
Note: Before loosening and removing the drive belt, make sure the water pump pulley bolts are removed.
5. Loosen the belt tensioner and remove the drive belt from the pump pulley (see chapter 1).
6. Remove the pump pulley.
7. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the pump.
8. Unscrew the three pump mounting bolts and remove it.
Installation
9. Ensure that the mating surfaces of the block and pump are free of gasket material.
10. Apply sealing compound (PSSC) type B5A - 19554 - A or equivalent to the pump gasket, then place the unit and gasket on the block.
11. Tighten the three mounting bolts to the required torque value.
12. Subsequent installation is the reverse of disassembly.
V6 engines
Disassembly
13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
14. Drain the coolant (see chapter 1).
15. Loosen the four pump pulley bolts (see figure).
Note: Before removing the drive belt, make sure that the pump pulley bolts are unscrewed, but do not try to remove the pulley immediately - the gap between the pump shaft projection and the wheel housing is insufficient. The pulley cannot be removed until the pump is disconnected.
16. Remove the drive belt(s) (see chapter 1).
17. Remove the generator (see Chapter 5).
18. Remove the auxiliary bolts securing the drive belt tensioner assembly (see figure).
19. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the water pump.
20. Unscrew the water pump bolts (see figure).
21. Disconnect the water pump from the camshaft timing chain cover.
Installation
22. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and timing chain cover.
23. After covering the gasket surface with contact adhesion (D7AZ 19B508 - A or similar), place the new gasket on the pump surface.
24. After installing the pulley onto the water pump hub mounting studs, place the pump on the camshaft drive chain cover.
25. Coat the pump bolt threads with pipe sealant (D8AZ - 19558 - A or equivalent), install the bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
26. Install the pump pulley bolts and tighten them by hand.
27. Subsequent assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
28. Immediately after installing the drive belt, tighten the pulley-to-hub bolts.
