Replacing the power steering pump reservoir

1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle (see section 26) and place it in a vise by holding one of the mounting bolts by the eye.

2. Remove the high pressure pipe end valve and spring (see pictures).





3. Swinging from side to side, remove the reservoir from the pump housing (see picture).



4. Remove the o-ring from the pump housing, clean the groove and install a new o-ring (see picture). Make sure it is firmly seated and does not scroll.




5. Apply a coat of gasoline grease to the O-ring and to the surface of the reservoir in contact with its inside diameter.

6. Slide the new reservoir onto the pump body, aligning the holes for the tubing tip.

7. Install two new O-rings on the discharge pipe tip (see picture) and lubricate them with gasoline grease and install the spring, valve and tip into the pump housing. Tighten the tip properly.



13. Install the pump (section 26), fill the reservoir with the recommended brand of fluid (Chapter 1) and bleed the power steering system as described in section 29.
