Thrust bearing and its fork — removal, inspection and installation

            0

Warning: as a result of clutch wear, asbestos-containing dust is formed, which settles on the elements of the mechanism and is extremely harmful to your health. Do not blow it off with compressed air or inhale it. Do not use gasoline or gasoline-containing solvents to clean this dust. Wash dust into the drain pan with brake cleaner. After wiping the clutch elements with a rag, place the used rag and cleaner in a resealable container.

Withdrawal

1. Remove the gearbox from the car (chapter 7 part A).

2. Remove thrust bearing retainer pin from yoke, remove bearing from transmission console (see picture).

3. To remove the fork from the shaft, unscrew the lever-to-shaft clutch bolt. Pull the shaft up through the clutch housing lift the fork (see figure 3.4).

Inspection

4. The yoke and shaft may show signs of heavy wear or metal plating.

5. Check bearings for damage, wear and cracks. While holding the inner race of the bearing, rotate the outer race. If the bearing does not rotate smoothly, it is noisy - replace it. When disassembling the clutch, it is recommended to replace the bearing.

Installation

6. If using an old thrust bearing, wipe off the old grease. Do not wash it with solvent, the solvent will ruin the bearing. Fill cavities and coat internal surfaces with high temperature multipurpose grease.

7. Lubricate the clutch fork bushing, install the fork in the clutch housing and lower the shaft through it into the lower bushing. Install the yoke bolt to the shaft, tighten it to the torque specified in the specification. Lubricate the contact point of the yoke with the bearing with high-temperature multifunctional grease.

8. Put the pressure bearing on the gearbox console, place it relative to the fork so that the bearing ears do not coincide with the vertical axes of the lever rods.

9. To ensure smooth operation of the thrust bearing and shaft, move the clutch release shaft lever by hand.
