Using the manual (Fiesta 4)

            0

The publication provides general characteristics of the car, description of the operation and interaction of units and mechanisms, operation and repair. It also provides advice, following which, using simple techniques, you can find and eliminate many faults. The content provided at the beginning of each section will allow you to quickly find the necessary information.

Structure of the book

Each section consists of the following parts: theory, maintenance, repair.

Theory.

Contains a description of the structure of units, parts, mechanisms and their interaction. Here you will find

Technical dictionary.

It explains the basic terms and definitions, provides brief characteristics, purpose and operation of vehicle components and systems.

Below is a sample of the design of the "Technical Dictionary".

Technical service.

All necessary work is presented in detail, step by step.

Working symbols characterize the time spent on each action, the degree of complexity and risk during the work for personnel and the environment. Illustrations make the material more accessible and facilitate the work.

Repair.

Detailed description of repair operations. Practical advice will help you when replacing parts and troubleshooting problems. This section lists possible malfunctions, their causes and troubleshooting methods.

The table of contents provided at the beginning of each section will help you quickly find the information you need.

The illustrations provided in the book provide a clear idea of the design of units and assemblies; sometimes they determine the sequence of work or the order and direction of removal and installation of parts when performing maintenance and repairs.

The technical dictionary provides information in a concise form about the main concepts, purpose and relationships.

TECHNICAL DICTIONARY

Main parts of the engine

Cylinder block. It contains the moving parts of the engine. In most engines, the cylinder block is made of gray cast iron. The cylinder block also contains auxiliary units, such as a generator and starter, and contains elements of the ignition system.

Cylinder head. Closes the cylinder block from above. It contains the intake and exhaust channels for the fuel-air mixture and exhaust gases, valve seats, bearings and valve guides, threaded holes for spark plugs, cooling system channels and combustion chambers. The gasket between the mating surfaces of the block and the cylinder head prevents coolant and air from entering the cylinders.

SEQUENCE OF WORKS

1. Remove the intake manifold. On vehicles with diesel engines, remove the intake manifold. On vehicles with all engines, disconnect the electrical wiring.

2. Loosen the six cylinder head cover mounting bolts and carefully remove it. If the cover fits tightly to the head, remove it by gently tapping it with your hand or a hammer handle

3. To measure compression and check the serviceability of the valves of one of the cylinders, the intake and exhaust valves must be completely closed. To do this, turn the camshaft so that both cams of the first cylinder (in the direction of movement to the right) are symmetrically in the upper position (it is necessary to follow the marks that determine the TDC) are completely closed.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Compressed air leak

If an air leak occurs at any point during compression, the most likely causes are as follows.

The intake manifold or air filter housing is faulty (the latter due to a faulty intake valve).

The radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap is open.

The list of faults provided, with the reasons for their occurrence and methods of elimination, will help to detect damage in various vehicle systems.

The "Practical Tips" subsection allows you to quickly and effectively detect a malfunction and eliminate it.

Possible malfunctions of the cooling system,
their causes and ways to eliminate them
Malfunction
Cause
Method of elimination
A. The coolant temperature gauge needle is in the red sector
1. Insufficient tension of the poly V-belt or it is torn
Tighten or replace the poly V-belt

2. Too little liquid in the cooling system
Add liquid

3. Temperature gauge wire is shorted to ground"
Disconnect the wire from the temperature sensor; the sensor arrow should return to zero, otherwise there is a short circuit to ground; check the wire from the sensor to the temperature gauge

Maintenance during the warranty period

When operating a new Ford Fiesta, be sure to adhere to the maintenance intervals prescribed by the manufacturer. Above all, do not perform the work yourself: even justified claims during the warranty period will only be accepted by Ford if the maintenance work on your car was carried out by an authorized service center. This also applies if you operate a car with an engine that has undergone a major overhaul.

Working symbols

The tree symbol should remind you of environmental protection. This symbol is placed in all cases where the operations performed or the waste associated with them are harmful to the environment.

the number of wrenches indicates the degree of complexity of the work being performed:

1 key - easy work;

2 keys - serious work requiring appropriate efforts;

3 keys - hard work.

Hourglass - indicates the approximate time spent on repairs. The marks on the hourglass correspond to a quarter of an hour, with a fully filled hourglass you need to calculate an hour of work.

Exclamation mark - indicates operations that affect the safety of your vehicle. If you are not sure that you can perform these jobs professionally, do not undertake them! Contact a car repair shop.

Inspection symbol - This symbol marks the work to prepare the vehicle for a technical inspection. You will save time and money if you perform the maintenance and preventive work marked with this pictogram before the technical inspection date.

This pictogram indicates all maintenance work on your car that is carried out at service stations. All items correspond to the official lists of maintenance work.
