Since its debut in 1976, the Ford Fiesta has been one of Europe's most popular compact cars: after almost a quarter of a century, its popularity has remained unchanged. More than ten million Fiestas have been produced. The small Ford is a reliable companion in all situations of everyday life. Incidentally, it was once the first European car designed using the FINITE-ELEMENT method. Throughout its entire automobile life, it has continually adapted to current technical standards. Its basic concept has freely outlived all other body concepts: at Ford, the Fiesta is still synonymous with a compact saloon with two or four doors, a varied interior, transversely mounted four-cylinder engines, front-wheel drive and a large boot lid. But the Fiesta version of the 96th series with new Zetec engines, an improved chassis and a significantly increased equipment package has also taken top places in the ratings of serious automobile magazines.
More comfort and improved engines
The key keywords for the 96 Series Fiesta in brief: newly developed 1.25-litre light-alloy engine (55 kW/75 hp), 1.8-litre diesel engine with swirl chamber and distributor fuel pump, four equipment variants, increased active and passive safety, comprehensive comfort package in all variants.
Until 1999, the compact Ford car was available as Fiesta Focus, Fiesta Flair, Fiesta Fun and Fiesta Ghia with three or five doors. The "practical" addition to the Fiesta belonged and belongs to the name of the Courier. The small "truck" does not differ from all Fiestas in its cabin, and from the technical side it offers the standard of a sedan.
96th version of the model
Ford has developed a program of models to meet the different needs of individual consumer groups. The Fiesta comes off the assembly line as a three- or five-door car. Here are the sedans:
– Fiesta Focus is an economical option;
– Fiesta Flair is a comfortable option;
– Fiesta Fun – a sporty option;
– Fiesta Ghia is a luxury option.
Standard equipment on all Fiesta vehicles includes a driver's airbag, seat belt tensioner, seat belt locking mechanism, electronic immobiliser, cigarette lighter and digital clock.
Fiesta Focus
The Fiesta Focus is recognizable externally, along with the lettering on the front wings, by its unpainted bumpers, black door handles and exterior rear-view mirrors, as well as a radiator grille painted in the color of the car. In addition to the named accessories, the standard equipment includes a rear window wiper and washer, a heated rear window and a folding rear seat back.
Fiesta Flair
The Fiesta Flair's exterior design features special side trim strips and a car nameplate. Standard equipment includes power steering, a split-folding rear seat, heat-protective tinted glass, an onion-shaped filter and recirculated air control.
Fiesta Fun
Standard equipment on the sports alternative includes specially designed seats, a stereo radio, tinted glass with heat protection, a white dashboard backing, as well as a rear spoiler and exterior mirrors painted in the vehicle colour. Ford supplies the Fiesta Fun exclusively with three doors.
Fiesta Ghia
The Fiesta Ghia comes with the highest level of equipment: power steering, rear headrests, automatically height-adjustable driver's seat, electric windows, automatically adjustable and heated outside rear-view mirrors are standard, as is a heated windscreen, a tachometer and remote central door locking. The Fiesta Ghia also looks like a luxury car from the outside, with body-colored bumpers and outside rear-view mirrors and a clear acrylic radiator grille.
Additional equipment
The range of additional equipment includes a front passenger airbag, four-channel ABS with traction control, power steering (if not standard), air conditioning, metallic paint and a panoramic sunroof. New to the equipment program is the so-called "Seat Package", which includes headrests on the rear seats and, for the Fiesta Focus, a partially folding rear seat backrest. For the Fiesta Flair and Fun, the package is expanded with automatic height adjustment for the driver's seat. Fans of fresh air have a Zetec version of the Fiesta Fun with an electrically operated folding top. In addition to the various equipment packages, Fiesta drivers have at their disposal such niceties as central door locking, electric windows, remote control for the boot lid and a heated windscreen.
