Since its debut in 1976, the Ford Fiesta has been one of Europe's most beloved compact cars and, after almost a quarter of a century, its popularity has remained unchanged. Over ten million Fiestas have already been produced. The little Ford is a reliable companion in all situations of everyday life. By the way, it was once the first European car calculated using the finite element method - FINITE-ELEMENT. Throughout his automotive life, he constantly adapted to current technical standards. Its basic concept freely outlived all other body concepts: at Ford, the Fiesta is still synonymous with a compact sedan with two or four doors, a varied interior, transverse four-cylinder engines, front-wheel drive and a large trunk lid. But the Fiesta version of the 96 series, with new Zetec engines, an improved chassis and a significantly increased equipment package, took the top places in the ratings of serious automotive magazines.

More comfort and improved engines

Key words for the 96-series Fiesta in brief: newly developed 1.25-litre light metal engine (55 kW / 75 hp), 1.8-litre swirl chamber diesel engine with fuel injection pump, four equipment options, increased active and passive safety, an extensive comfort package in all variants.

Until 1999, Ford's compact car was available as the Fiesta Focus, Fiesta Flair, Fiesta Fun and Fiesta Ghia with three or five doors. «Practical» the addition of the Fiesta car belonged and still belongs to the Courier car name. Small cabin «truck» does not differ from all Fiesta cars, also from the technical side it offers the standard of a sedan.

96th version of the model

Ford has developed a program of models, taking into account the different task definitions of individual consumer groups. The Fiesta comes off the production lines as a three- or five-door car. Here are the sedans:

- Fiesta Focus - an economical option;

- Fiesta Flair - a comfortable option;

- Fiesta Fun - sports option;

– Fiesta Ghia is a luxury option.

The standard equipment of all Fiesta vehicles includes a driver's airbag, seat belt tensioner, seat belt locking mechanism, electronic traffic lock, cigarette lighter, digital clock.

Fiesta Focus

The Fiesta Focus is visually recognizable along with the front fender lettering from the unpainted bumpers, black door handles and exterior mirrors, and the car-colored radiator grille. In addition to the accessories mentioned, the standard equipment includes a rear window wiper and washer, a heated rear window and a reclining rear seat backrest.

Fiesta Flair

The exterior design elements of the Fiesta Flair are complemented by special side trim strips and a lettering with the name of the car. Its standard equipment includes power steering, a reclining rear seatback in parts, tinted glass with heat protection, an onion-shaped filter and a recirculated air switch.

Fiesta Fun

The sporty alternative comes as standard with specially designed seats, stereo radio, tinted windows with heat protection, white instrument panel underlay, as well as a rear spoiler and exterior mirrors painted in the color of the vehicle. Ford only supplies the Fiesta Fun with three doors.

Fiesta Ghia

The Fiesta Ghia is top of the line: power steering, rear head restraints, auto-height driver's seat, power windows, auto-adjusting and heated exterior mirrors are standard, as are heated front windows, a tachometer and remote central locking.. The Fiesta Ghia also looks like a luxury car from the outside, with car-colored bumpers and exterior mirrors and a clear acrylic grille.

Additional equipment

The range of additional equipment includes an airbag for the front passenger, a four-channel ABS system with drive slip control, power steering (if not standard equipment), air conditioning, metallic color and panoramic sunroof. A novelty in the equipment program is the so-called «seat package», which includes the headrests in the rear seats and, for the Fiesta Focus, the partly reclining rear seatback. For Fiesta Flair and Fun vehicles, the package has been extended with automatic height adjustment of the driver's seat. Outdoor enthusiasts got a Zetec version of the Fiesta Fun with an electrically powered convertible top. In addition to the various equipment packages, Fiesta drivers have at their disposal such nice things as central door locking, electric lifts, remote control of the trunk lid and heated windshield.
