Zetec-SE motors with reduced maintenance costs

With two completely newly developed four-cylinder engines, the 96th version of the Fiesta starts. These Zetec-SE engines are being installed at Ford's suggestion to set new standards in terms of driving culture, economy and service life. Fiesta car buyers can choose between 1.25-litre (55 kW, 75 hp) and 1.4 liter (60 kW, 90 HP) engine volume. Both engines impress with, for example, reliable technology and reduced maintenance times: oil change including oil filter change (3.4 l), every 15,000 km, the spark plugs must be changed to new plugs every 45,000 km, and the valve clearance check only after 150,000 km.

Engines 1.3 l with injection system and two power stages

The current offer of petrol engines within the range of the Fiesta series is complemented by two 1.3-liter four-cylinder engines with multiport fuel injection, electronically controlled, with a power of 37/44 kW (50 HP and 60 hp). Before they became the first in the new Fiesta series, Ford engineers fundamentally changed and improved the performance of these engines: radical design solutions to reduce harmful emissions, as well as to create a comfortable noise and vibration regime, have the highest priority over installing engines on a conveyor. The factory designation for both engines is Endura-E.

New swirl chamber diesel engine

The completely redesigned 44 kW / 60 hp diesel engine has the same radical solutions. – 1.8 liter swirl chamber diesel engine – Edruda-DE. A camshaft driven by a toothed belt rotates in its aluminum cylinder head. The fuel consumption of the Endura-DE engine is the most favorable of any Ford engine. Already immediately after a cold start, the clear sound of a diesel engine (sound of hammering nails) changes to a monotonous hum. For the specialist, as well as for the amateur, this is the best proof that theoretical noise reduction solutions are perfectly implemented in practice.

The history of the development of the car Fiesta

Nearly 20 years old - and already a classic in the automotive industry: Ford has produced about 10 million Fiestas since the small car entered the European market in 1976 as the first car with front-wheel drive. Over time, the following premieres appeared: in 1984 the car received a diesel drive, in 1989 - the ABS system, in 1992 - the first 16-valve engine and in 1994 - a driver's airbag as standard equipment. The current version of the Fiesta with its safety package made a splash at the beginning of 1994. Reinforced bodywork for side impact protection, airbags for driver and front passenger, seatbelt pretensioners and a fuel cut-off switch in the event of a collision make the Fiesta one of the safest and most reliable vehicles in its class. The Fiesta is manufactured in Koln, Valencia (Spain) and Dagenham (Great Britain).

Pic. 1.4. Overall dimensions of the car Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta car dimensions (three-/five-door) since 1996 release

Height (1320 mm) and width (1634 mm) The Fiesta is well in line with the next higher class of car. But the total length (3828 mm) and the base of 2446 mm indicate that the Ford car belongs to a special type of compact car - «externally» big among small cars. Four adults can comfortably fit in its cabin, while the fifth passenger will be a bit cramped in the back, of course. The trunk of the Fiesta car has a volume of 250 liters, with the backrest reclined, the volume up to the glass height is 625 liters, and up to the ceiling - even 930 liters. This makes the small Ford not only a first in its class, but also a practical vehicle of its time.

In terms of dimensions, the Ford Fiesta can be placed on the level of the Bonsai models of the next higher class of cars. Wheel axle distance (base) 2446 mm corresponds to almost 64% of its total length. Although the basic concept of the Rhenish mini-car is more than 20 years old, the Fiesta is still on par with the younger cars in its range in terms of space and luggage space.
