Speedometer Drive Pinion — removal and installation (Transit 2)

            0

Removal

1. With the parking brake applied, jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands.

2. Unscrew the speedometer cable retaining plate bolt. On models with an electronic tachograph, disconnect the tachograph wiring.

3. Remove the plate and pull the cable together with the drive gear out of the gearbox.

4. Remember that when removing the pinion gear, some fluid will spill out of the gearbox.

5. After removing the locking clamp, disconnect the cable from the drive gear.

6. If the gear itself is badly worn or damaged, it should be replaced with a new one. Also replace the O-ring with a new one if it is damaged in any way.

Installation

7. Install in the reverse order of removal, lubricating the gear and cleaning the surface around its location in the casing.

8. With the vehicle lowered to the ground, check the level and add transmission fluid if necessary.
