Causes of malfunctions
- Electronic units (EU) include the following devices: microprocessor (CPU);
- non-volatile program memory (NVM);
- data memory (RAM), etc.
These devices are sensitive to various external influences: ultraviolet radiation (electric welding, sunlight), voltage surges, sparking. Furthermore, the guaranteed storage period for information (programs) in the CPU and EPP does not exceed 5 years, subject to normal operating conditions (voltage, temperature).
1. Due to mechanical impact the block became unusable (broken).
2. It was flooded with water and has obvious defects (oxidation).
3. Breakdowns due to non-compliance with basic vehicle operating rules (are given below).
Therefore, when operating vehicles equipped with such units, it is necessary to take additional safety precautions, for example:
- be sure to go through the seasonal (at least once a year) diagnostics;
- turn off the power supply when performing electric welding work;
- keep electrical connections clean and in good working order (connectors, fuses, electrical wiring);
- do not touch connectors, fuses, or other electrical connections when the ignition is on;
- protect the EB from exposure to high temperatures (above +75°C), for example, during thermal drying after painting;
- protect the EB from exposure to low temperatures (below -30°C);
- avoid exposing the EB memory to direct sunlight (do not remove the covers from the blocks);
- maintenance and repair (installation and connection of alarm systems, etc) electrical equipment of a vehicle performed by unqualified electricians may lead to possible malfunctions of the entire electrical equipment of the vehicle;
- the battery terminals are removed only when the electronic systems are turned off and the engine is turned off;
- the use of homemade products, such as bugs on fuses, etc., is not permitted.
The need to restore and configure the control unit
If you have an imported car from BMW, VW, AUDI, Mercedes, Opel Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Ford. Renault, Toyota Nissan, Mitsubishi, etc., then they can be installed blocks of the following companies:
- BOSCH (JETRONIC, MOTRONIC, ECOTRONIC)
- VW (DIGIFANT, DIGIJET)
- SIEMENS
- MULTEC
- MOTORCRAFT
- MOTOROLA
- RENIX, BENDIX
- VDO
- MAGNETI-MARELLI
- WEBER
- HITACHI and others.
After diagnostics at the service station, it turned out that the unit is not working or there are obvious reasons and defects listed above:
It should be restored, taking into account the settings for this car (engine operating parameters), since replacing it without such adjustment in the laboratory is undesirable.
| Names of the main faults in auto electronics | Consequences of their occurrence |
| Failure of vehicle control units (control of ignition, fuel supply, etc.) | An emergency situation may occur on the road when the engine stops, electrical wiring may catch fire, vehicle components may fail, fuel consumption may increase sharply, and CO levels in exhaust gases may increase |
| Failure in the readings of the electronic instrument panels (IP) | An emergency situation on the road, problems with controlling engine temperature, speed, oil pressure, etc. when the transmission is not working, or a fire in the vehicle interior |
| There is no adaptation of auto electronics and software for operation in the CIS conditions | Reduced vehicle life, frequent breakdowns of fuel systems, catalytic converters, engine overheating, environmental pollution, excessive fuel consumption |
| Failure of control units (ABS, Air Bag, air conditioning, automatic transmission, etc.) | The occurrence of an emergency situation on the road due to failure of one of the listed systems, a threat to human life and health |
| Blocking the car's operation with digital car radios, loss of code | This creates inconvenience when starting the engine, and may cause a complete blockage of all vehicle systems |
| Lack of diagnostics of auto electronics (computers, control units) | Increased likelihood of occurrence of the listed malfunctions of auto electronics |
