Removal and installation the brake pedal (Taurus 1 and 2)

Removal


1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the under-dash panel and pull out the brake light switch electrical connector.

3. Disconnect the brake pedal from the brake booster pushrod by removing the retaining clip and washer and pulling the pushrod off the pedal pin.

4. Unscrew the nut and pivot bolt from the top of the pedal.

5. Now you can remove the brake pedal, intermediate ring and feedthrough insulator from the bracket.

Installation


6. Use new bushings; lubricate the bushings, intermediate ring, bolt and all rubbing parts with a thin layer of motor oil.

7. Replace the pedal, bushings and spacer ring, install the pivot bolt. Remember that the bolt head should be on the right side of the bracket.

8. Tighten the nut and connect the booster rod and brake light switch to the pedal.

9. Press the brake pedal several times to make sure it works properly.

10. Connect the wiring to the brake light switch, install the under-dash panel cover.
