Determining bearing or liner damage (Fiesta 4)

· Increase the engine speed at idle to medium and reduce to idle. If a slight knocking noise occurs when the speed decreases and you notice this noise during constant acceleration, immediately have the engine diagnosed at a car repair shop. These noises are typical of damage to the connecting rod bearing shell.

If you ignore the initial noises, then after a few kilometers there will be more severe noises, indicating serious damage to the bearing shell: the shell has already melted, the connecting rod is knocking on the crankshaft. In this situation, there is no point in thinking about cheap repairs, since either the entire engine or its components need to be replaced.

A steady knock from the crank mechanism that increases synchronously with the engine crankshaft speed often means that the main bearing shell is damaged. Immediately turn off the engine and have it diagnosed at a car repair shop. If you have driven a little longer, your cylinder block will become unusable even as a replacement engine unit. This will unreasonably increase the repair costs, since the mechanic will bill you for a new cylinder block instead of the unusable old cylinder block.
