Determination of bearing or bushing damage

• Increase the engine speed at idle to medium and reduce to idle. If a slight knock occurs when reducing the speed and you notice this noise at constant accelerations, immediately have the engine diagnosed by a car workshop. These noises are typical when a connecting rod bearing shell is damaged.

• If you ignore the initial noises, then after a few kilometers harsher noises will follow, indicating serious damage to the bearing shell: the bearing has already melted, the connecting rod knocks on the crankshaft. In this situation, there is nothing to think about cheap repairs, since either the entire engine or its components must be replaced.

• Uniform, synchronously increasing with the speed of the engine crankshaft knock from the crank mechanism often means damage to the main bearing shell. Switch off the engine immediately and have it checked by a workshop. If you drive a little longer, then your cylinder block will become unusable even as a replacement engine assembly. This will unnecessarily increase repair costs, as the technician will bill you for a new cylinder block instead of an unusable old cylinder block.
