Starting the engine with a dead battery

            0

To start the engine from the battery of another vehicle, use only special cables. This will protect the electronic components of your Fiesta from dangerous voltage peaks.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Position the vehicle with the charged battery as close to your vehicle as possible - the batteries should be close to each other. Do not allow vehicles to touch. The cable must hang freely between vehicles.

2. Turn off all non-essential power consumers.

3. First connect one end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the discharged battery, then the other end of the same cable to the positive terminal of the booster battery.

4. Next, connect one end of the second black cable to the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery, then the other end to «mass», stationary metal point (e.g. to the engine mount). Do not connect a cable from the negative terminal of the booster battery to the negative terminal of a dead battery.

5. Start up the car engine - «donor» with an increased crankshaft speed so that the generator begins to generate voltage.

6. Start the car engine with the dead battery. If the engine does not start immediately, let the starter cool down. In pauses, in addition, there will be an equalization of the voltage between the batteries. Vehicle operating time «donor» does not affect the state of charge of its battery.

7. As soon as the engine starts, disconnect the cable first from the negative terminal of the discharged and then charged battery. Finally, disconnect the positive terminal cable in the reverse order of connection.

8. After starting the engine with the help of an auxiliary car, drive the car for 30 km at an increased engine speed. In this case, the alternator charges your car's battery more intensively.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Starting the engine by pushing the car

This method cannot be used to start an engine aggregated with an automatic transmission CTX. By pushing, you can start the engine of cars with a manual transmission, provided that the engine of your car is working. Do not push if the engine does not start due to a fault in the ignition system. An unburnt air-fuel mixture can enter the exhaust system and damage the catalytic converter.

1. Turn on the ignition and first gear. In higher gears, the generator rotor will rotate too slowly, the generator will not produce enough voltage.

2. Depress the clutch pedal, while the assistants should push the car until it picks up speed.

3. Quickly release the clutch pedal - the crankshaft will jerk, the engine should start. Immediately depress the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Starting the engine by towing a car

This method must not be used to start the engine of a Fiesta equipped with an automatic transmission CTX. Starting the engine of a vehicle with a manual transmission using towing can only be carried out if the ignition system is faulty. Do not forget that when towing a vehicle with the engine off, it is necessary to apply much greater effort to turn the steering wheel and depress the brake pedal.

1. Turn on the ignition, turn on second gear and press the clutch pedal.

The towing vehicle must move slowly.

2. At a speed of approximately 15 km/h, slowly release the clutch pedal, keeping your right hand on the parking brake lever.

3. If the engine starts, press the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal.

4. Horn to the driver of the car in front. Together with the towing vehicle, brake gently using the parking brake.
