Every 45,000 km — removal, inspection and replacement of spark plugs

            0

In terms of maintenance, Ford requires the replacement of spark plugs every 45,000 km (45,000 km). But if your Fiesta is reluctant to start or jerks after starting, the spark plugs may be the cause. Invisible cracks in the insulator when starting a cold engine can fill with fuel, which removes the spark. Under pressure, sparking may be impaired, despite the fact that the spark plug works normally in the open air. If you don't trust your spark plugs, replace them with new ones to be sure. Change spark plugs only on a cold engine, using a special spark plug wrench or a spark plug nozzle

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Remove the tips of the high voltage wires from the spark plugs (pic. 9.6). Zetec engine spark plugs are located under a decorative panel on top of the cylinder head cover and protected from dust and moisture. Be careful when installing - a regular tool can damage the spark plug insulator. Therefore, it is recommended to use a special spark plug wrench to replace spark plugs.

2. Turn out the spark plugs about three turns and thoroughly blow out the spark plug wells with compressed air to prevent dirt from entering them and the cylinders during installation.

3. Using a candle wrench, turn out the candles and lay them on the table in the order of installation in the cylinders.

4. Before installing, lubricate the threads of the new spark plugs with a thin layer of copper grease and screw them into the holes by hand (without warping), then tighten the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench 1/4 turn (90°), which corresponds to the prescribed tightening torque of 25 Nm.

5. If you are using used spark plugs, thoroughly clean the spark plug threads with a brass brush before installing. They are installed in the same way as new spark plugs, but turn the key only at an angle of 15° (the o-ring on used spark plugs is already compressed).
