2. Unscrew the three bolts and remove the vacuum pump from the rear of the generator (see Figure 6.2).

3. Loosen the screws and remove the regulator and brush holder from the rear of the generator. On Lucas/Magneti-Marelli models, remove the field connector after the regulator and brush holder have been removed (see figure 6.3).

4. Measure the protrusion of each brush from the brush holder and compare it with the data in the Specifications (see figure 6.4). If any of the brushes are worn beyond the acceptable limit, install a new regulator or brush holder.
5. If the original brushes are still serviceable, clean them with a cloth dampened with solvent. Check that the spring tension is the same for the brushes and ensures normal pressure. Make sure the brushes move freely in the holders.
6. Clean the generator slip rings with a cloth soaked in solvent. Check that there are no nicks, scorches or significant indentations on the surface of the slip rings. It may be necessary to have the slip rings repaired by a specialist.

7. Install the regulator with the brush holder clip and the vacuum pump in the reverse order of removal.
8. Install the alternator as described in previous Section.
