Checking the condition of the brake discs

            0

After removing the wheels to check the condition of the brake pads, check the condition of the brake discs.

Brake disc dimensions, mm

Diameter 240

Nominal thickness 12/ 20*

Minimum allowable thickness 10/ 18*

* On CTX automatic transmission models, the brake discs are internally ventilated.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. It is normal for brake discs to have a slightly bluish tint on the surface of the brake discs.

2. Brake discs should not have deep scratches and marks caused by dirt or badly worn pads. Scratches cut deep into new brake pads, significantly reducing pad life and impairing braking performance.

3. Worn brake discs are not processed.

4. Brake discs worn to the minimum allowable thickness must be replaced. When replacing a brake disc, the second brake disc must also be replaced to ensure even distribution of braking forces.

Pic. 14.10. Measuring the brake disc thickness using two coins placed on both sides of the disc between the caliper and the brake disc

5. The best way to measure disc thickness is by placing a coin on both sides of the disc between the caliper and the brake disc (pic. 14.10). To determine wear, subtract the thickness of the coins from the result.
