Repair operations available with the engine still in place (Taurus 1 and 2)

This section of Chapter 2 covers procedures for repairing V-6 engines without removing them from the vehicle.

The intake and exhaust manifold, oil pan, and cylinder head gaskets are accessible with the engine in place. External engine components—the intake and exhaust manifold, oil pan (and pump), water pump, starter, alternator, distributor, and fuel injection system—can be removed for repair without removing the engine. Since the cylinder head can be removed without disturbing the engine, the valves can be serviced in the same position.

If you do not have the equipment to remove the engine, you can repair and replace piston rings, pistons, connecting rods and connecting rod bearings without removing it.
