2. Place the gear shift lever in neutral.
3. From the engine compartment side, unscrew the nut securing the shift lever to the shaft; disconnect the lever from the shaft. Mark the flat surfaces of the shaft - they are made so that the lever cannot be installed incorrectly.
4. Pull out the electrical connector, unscrew the two retaining bolts and remove the switch.
5. Place the new switch in its place on the shaft and tighten the bolts.
6. To adjust the shifter, insert a #43 (0.089 inch) drill bit into the adjustment hole and tighten the bolts securely (see illustration). Remember that the drill bit cannot be inserted as far into any other gear as it can into neutral.
